What's on the worksheet
- Look at how to write F and f. Start at the green dot.
- Trace the uppercase F.
- Trace the lowercase f.
- Write F and f on your own.
- Trace the word. Color the picture.
Skills practiced
This page works on F and the /f/ sound in fish, fox, feather, and frog. Your child traces uppercase F, one line down with two arms that both point right, and lowercase f, which curls over at the top like a cane and has a short cross on the dotted line. After writing a few alone, your child traces fish beside a picture to color. The /f/ sound can be stretched out, which makes it a great one for hearing first sounds.

How to use it, step by step
- Say the letter name and its sound together, then point to the green dot where each stroke starts.
- Trace the big model with a finger first, following the numbered arrows in order.
- Your child traces the gray letters with a pencil, starting each one at the green dot, then writes the letter alone on the empty line.
- Finish with the picture word: say it slowly, trace it, and color the picture.
Tips for parents and teachers
Show your child how to make the /f/ sound by resting the top teeth on the bottom lip and blowing gently. Uppercase F looks like E without the bottom arm, and some children add that third arm out of habit, so compare the two side by side. The cross on lowercase f goes on the dotted middle line.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: Trace only uppercase F, which uses straight lines. Have your child blow on a feather or a scrap of paper while saying /f/ to feel the air move.
Harder: Play a quick game: say a word and your child gives a thumbs-up if it starts with /f/, as in fan, fork, or five, and a thumbs-down if it does not.
