What's on the worksheet
- Look at how to write D and d. Start at the green dot.
- Trace the uppercase D.
- Trace the lowercase d.
- Write D and d on your own.
- Trace the word. Color the picture.
Skills practiced
Your child traces D and d on primary lines, writes a few without dots, and then traces dog under a picture to color. The /d/ sound in dog, duck, and door is made with the tongue tapping just behind the top teeth. Uppercase D is a straight line with one big curve, while lowercase d starts with a small circle and finishes with a tall line, the same way a and c begin.

How to use it, step by step
- Say the letter name and its sound together, then point to the green dot where each stroke starts.
- Trace the big model with a finger first, following the numbered arrows in order.
- Your child traces the gray letters with a pencil, starting each one at the green dot, then writes the letter alone on the empty line.
- Finish with the picture word: say it slowly, trace it, and color the picture.
Tips for parents and teachers
Say 'circle first, then the tall line' while your child makes each lowercase d. Mixing up b and d is normal until about age seven, so do not worry if it happens here. A quick help: lowercase d begins exactly like c, so once your child can make a c, the d is just one tall line away.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: Focus on uppercase D, which has a clear starting line. Trace it with a finger first, then do one row with a crayon and stop there.
Harder: Say pairs of words like dog and log, or dig and pig, and have your child clap only for the word that starts with /d/.
