What's on the worksheet

  1. Look at how to write each digit. Start at the green dot.
  2. Trace the numbers 1 to 20.
  3. Write the missing numbers.

Skills practiced

The top row shows how to form each digit, with numbered arrows and a green starting dot. Below it, your child traces 1 to 10 in one column and 11 to 20 in the other, so each teen number sits right next to the single digit it is built from. The page ends with a short chart of missing numbers. Kindergarten expects children to write numerals up to 20, and the teens are where most of the mix-ups happen.

Common Core K.CC.A.3: Writing numerals up to 20 and matching them to small groups

Common Core K.CC.A.2: Picking up the count from any number instead of starting at one

Short descriptions in our own words. About our standards.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Your child reads the instruction out loud and explains in their own words what to do.
  2. Work through the tasks in order: the first ones are easier and warm up for the next.
  3. The task with a star is optional, for early finishers.
  4. Check together with the answer key and redo only what was wrong.

Tips for parents and teachers

Point out that 11 to 19 all start with a 1, and that the second digit is the same one from the left column. Watch for teen numbers written backward, like 71 for 17, because we say seventeen with the seven first. If that happens, have your child read the 1 as one ten before writing the second digit.

Make it easier or harder

Easier: Cut the page down the middle and do 1 to 10 one day and 11 to 20 the next. Fill in the chart together, counting out loud from 1 and pointing at each box.

Harder: Have your child write each number in the empty space at the end of its row without looking at the dotted copies. Then ask for the numbers from 20 back down to 1.
